Derek DeBoer will be joined by  Ariel Atom test driver Tom Smurzynski, and Western Region Karting standout Mallorie Smurzyski in a Chevrolet Cobalt for a select number of races in the 2007 Grand-Am Koni Challenge series.  Stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.  Also, look for an update soon at www.projectmotorsports.net  The teams website should be up and running soon.

July 24, 2006-    PORTLAND INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY

Derek posted impressive results during his final weekend with the Welch Racing team keeping the car in podium contention during the entire weekend.  With some technical problems during Thursdays practice we still managed to post the fastest times of the day and continued on that pace with the fastest times on Friday as well.  An unfortunate incident involving lapped traffic forced Derek off of the track during the Saturday race, but he overcame the hurdle and worked his way back through the field to a 5th place finish.  Sundays race in the extreme heat proved to be even better as Derek worked the car on the very greasy track to a 3rd place podium finish.  Overall it was a very challenging weekend, but the combined effort from Derek and the entire Welch crew kept the car on pace and ultimately ended with Derek's first podium finish in this very talented field.

May 22, 2006-    MILLER MOTORSPORTS PARK- UTAH

Welch Racing and Derek DeBoer made a very strong showing, ran a very quick pace and proved to be very competitive throughout the entire weekend.  Results didn't follow suit as the Welch Racing/ Gold and Gems #9 car was plagued with gearbox problems that occurred mid-way through Saturdays race.  Derek was running a very strong 3rd position, but was unable to maintain with the transmission problems.  The team did a great job getting the car back together for Sundays race and again a good race pace was set and the #9 ultimately finished in 6th place.  Derek was a little disappointed in the result, but overall it was a very good weekend at the new Utah facility and a lot was learned about the 4.5 mile circuit and proper car set-up.

April 10, 2006-    BUTTONWILLOW RACE

The team had a great weekend and went through a learning curve with  the updated car and ultimately got the package right.  Derek had a very strong qualifying lap putting the car into P2 and ran a very heads up race until an incident in turn 14 ended the race prior to the checkered flag.  In the second race, challenging conditions at the track made the team very happy with a 5th place finish.  Overall this was a very good learning weekend and the team is eagerly anticipating the next outing.

March 13, 2006-    SEASON OPENER AT CALIFORNIA SPEEDWAY

Derek DeBoer and Welch Racing had a very positive season opener at California Speedway this past weekend.  It was a good outing and a very good time for the new team of drivers to mesh and get settled into the program for the season.  Derek and the other drivers proved to post fast times throughout the weekend and were very competitive when it came to race time.  The results were not as high as we had hoped, but a lot of learning occurred this weekend and the team is very anxious for the upcoming races at Buttonwillow in April.

March 11, 2006-    2005 UPDATE KIT ON ORDER

After a very positive showing during Fridays pre-race test day, team owner Jerry Welch announced to Derek that he has ordered the 2005 update kit for the #9 car piloted by Derek DeBoer.  This will give Derek the car that he needs to lead the competition to victory lane.  The kit should arrive in time to be installed prior to the April Buttonwillow race.

November 9-10, 2005-    TESTING

Derek had his first pre-season testing sessions with the team and put in some very fast laps.  After the impressive two day performance, everyone is very excited for the potential of Welch Racing and Derek DeBoer for the 2006 season.

November 3, 2005-    SIGNING w/ WELCH RACING

After much time and many conversations a deal has finally been made and you will see Derek DeBoer behind the wheel of one of Welch Racing's Formula Renault 2.0L cars, campaigning for the 2006 Formula TR Pro Series Championship.

August 30, 2004-    PORTLAND RACE

The right opportunity finally presented itself and Derek was able to run his first professional races with Phillips Motorsports at Portland International Raceway in the Formula TR Pro Series on August 28th and 29th.  Derek took the most of this opportunity and had two 2nd place finishes despite some last minute challenges with the car.  It was a very strong showing and we are looking for the opportunity to compete in the balance of this season and the up-coming Winter Pro Series.

January 15, 2004-    TESTING

With a very successful test from over one year ago with Phillips Motorsports, the opportunity to run with one of the most successful programs in the North American Fran- Am program has represented itself.  The 2004 Fran- Am West USA Pro Series is quickly approaching and Phillips Motorsports would like to have Derek in their car.  If some last minute funding and sponsorship can come together, plan on seeing D.DeBoer Racing and Phillips Motorsports on top of the podium again.

January 12, 2003-    FIRST VICTORY

Derek experiences his first victory of his rookie season at the very challenging infield road course at The California Speedway in Fontana, CA.  Derek started the race in fifth position and with a great start and dominating first lap, took the lead just prior to the first turn of lap 2.  This was all it took- with a clear vision ahead of him and the rest of the field behind, he lead the entire balance of the race to take his first, and certainly not last, checkered flag.
